Public Relations

For this post I am going to talk about some of the clients Garis PR & Media Group has had in the part such as; Judy Garland, Arthur Godfrey and Phil Silvers. The one I was most interested in was Judy Garland, she is one of my idols along with Marilyn Monroe. When I read that she was a client for this firm that made me want to get a job there. I have seen some of her movies and she was a very inspiring person and this agency was very smart to get her, since almost everyone knows her name from "The Wizard of Oz". Another name that has been a part of the Garis PR & Media Group was John Robert Powers modeling industry. He held a show at Garrison's. His name is still being talked about to this day, his modeling agency is still around and going strong. The third event I noticed while reading the website was that the "very first remote radio talk show in America was broadcast live from the front window of Garrison's on 50th Street" (Garis PR & Media Group website). Also like I said in my previous post Robert Garis, who is the father of the firm, "is one of the worlds most renown restaurant designers" (Garis PR & Media Group website). The whole Garis family has had many legends in the firm, such as; the "grandfather to R.J. Garis was with the New York Daily News for over 25 years", and "his uncle worked with the New York Times for over 37 years" (Garis PR & Media Group website). So as you can see this firm has a lot of history and memories. That is why I would love to work there someday in the future.

Being a Publicist.

When being a publicist, which is what I want to me, you have to do so many things. Such as setting up promos for what ever your certain client is doing, and pretty much setting up anything that has to do with getting your client seen and heard so they can get more publicity. The video clip that I chose is from the hit show "Melrose Place". It shows Ella Simms, who is played by Katie Cassidy, in a sticky situation so she gives the character Jonah his supposed "big break". Ella is a publicist and needs someone to shoot a music video for a crazy singer who is "packing heat". Jonah is worried about this and changes his mind, which makes Ella persuade him to do the job. That is what publicists have to do they need to persuade their clients to do things to make them a so called "hit" in the celebrity world. Ella is a very get to the point publicist and gets what she wants. She seems like a great publicist to have because she does not take any crap and gets the job done. Throughout the clip it shows Ella working and trying to get the music video done. When in the end, Ella has to tell Jonah that his video that he had done is going to be on T.V. but the original person that was supposed to be filming the video was going to be getting the credit. This makes Jonah very upset since he is the one who made the video and changed the entire vision of it because he felt it was too out there. Ella got very mad because they had a certain outline of what the video was supposed to be but Jonah thought of something else that in the end worked out for the better, which made the original person want the credit. This is something that I want to do, I probably will not be as risky as Ella Simms is, but I could work up to that because that is something you really need to be to get your way in Hollywood.
